Welcome to the Dilkon Chapter Home Page!

Navajo Name: To Al Chi'di (Small Amount of Water)

The Dilkon Chapter conducts monthly public meetings to keep residents informed and to ensure public participation in policy development. Public meetings enable a forum where residents may address concerns to their elected officials or to decide on matters concerning their chapter.

Dilkon is a unique community. Other than the official Navajo name Toalchidi, the anglicized word "Dilkon," is derived from the Navajo word Dilkooh meaning smooth, in reference to the conical peak near the community. The peak is barren of trees or other disruptive geological features. The land is open range, interrupted by scores of rocky hill formations caused by ancient volcanic activity. Navajo Route 15 runs east and west through the chapter area. This route enables a shorter distance between Window Rock and Flagstaff. State Highway 87 crosses north and south, to Second Mesa and Winslow respectively.

Dilkon Chapter has withdrawn 700 acres for development and expansion of the Dilkon community. Dilkon is regionally located in the southwest part of the Navajo Nation, strategically situated to serve as an administrative center for tribal, federal, state, or county sub-office operations. According to the 2000 Census data, the Dilkon census tract population is 2026. Dilkon Chapter plays a major role in sponsoring the annual Southwest Navajo Nation Fair.
